Giant Steps Information

    Giant Steps Honorees are chosen annually from a diverse group of individuals who have shown courage, heroism, triumph in the midst of adversity, and community activism through the power of sport. Finalists are chosen from a group of nominations received from all over the country.

    Honorees are chosen by a diverse national selection committee made up of college athletic directors, NCAA staff, National Federation of State High School Associations, Former Giant Steps Honorees, Institute Board Members, Non-Profit Directors, and Civil Rights Activists. 

    National STUDENT-Athlete Day is a program of Institute for Sport and Social Justice, and is co-sponsored by the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). National STUDENT-Athlete Day is celebrated annually on April 6th, however, events take place throughout the month and beyond.

    Honorees are chosen in the following categories. Please choose only one category.

    •Courageous Student-Athletes (male and female)
    •Coach
    •Civic Leaders
    •Barrier Breakers
    •A Hero Among Us

    Please have the following information available when making your nomination:

    •Head shot (maximum 1 gb)
    ªAction shot (maximum 1 gb)
    •Letters of recommendations (two maximum in PDF Format)
    •Personal bio of nominee (PDF Format)
    •Articles of nominee (PDF Format)
    •Video links (if available - if your nominee is chosen, we will need video footage of them). You can copy and paste several links into one document
    and upload them.
